Whether you’re a Seahawk, Bronco, or just excited for the advertisements and half time performance, fans and Fashionistas come together all across the globe to watch on the biggest events in the United States, the Superbowl. After a seemingly flawless performance by Beyonce at Superbowl XLVII, Bruno Mars had very large shoes to fill. Mars brought retro glamor to the stage, scoring a style Touchdown at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey.
The singer hit the stage performing a solid gold lineup of “Locked Out of Heaven,” “Treasure,” and a romantic rendition of “Just the Way You Are.” Equal parts Prince, Michael Jackson and James Brown, Bruno worked a retro gold lame jacket paired with a white shirt, black trousers and a matching skinny tie by French fashion house Saint Laurent. Bruno is no stranger to Saint Laurent, having rocked the Parisian designer threads on numerous occasions.
Not only have musicians featured prominently in Saint Laurent marketing — the “Saint Laurent Music Project” saw everyone from Daft Punk to Sky Ferreira to Courtney Love to Jerry Lee Lewis posing in his black and white ads — but the brand also seems to be targeting musicians for celebrity dressing, most recently outfitting Wiz Khalifa and Miguel for the Grammys, Ellie Goulding for the VMAs, Lady Gaga for regular life and Daft Punk for practically everything.
And perhaps this strategy is working — as we all know, Slimane’s designs are selling like hotcakes. Burberry and Tom Ford, too, have endeavored to align themselves with various musicians, supporting both emerging British artists (Burberry) and dressing the likes of Justin Timberlake (Tom Ford).
While Mars’ suiting was custom, according to the brand, that doesn’t mean fans can’t cop the look for themselves. Female fans, at least. A near-identical metallic Saint Laurent jacket is on sale at Bergdorf’s for a mere $737. Just in time for fashion week!
