As a Fashion lover living in Paris, one of the most exciting times to discover exquisite, beautifully crafted clothes is during Haute Couture Week. From the refined fabric choices to the spectacular hand made embroidery embellishments, these one of a kind garments can truly be recognized as pieces of art.
For those less familiar with Haute Couture, it was born here in France by an Englishman called Charles Frederick Worth who started making custom made clothing for the elite women of Paris. Today, Haute Couture refers to collections created only by a hand full of luxury brands that are exclusively chosen based on established standards.
Anywho, some of the most iconic and memorable pieces of Fashion have been produced in the name of Haute Couture.
Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy
The Smoking of Yves Saint Laurent
Marilyn Monroe in Christian Dior
As a passionate trend follower, I believe it is as important to look at what’s hot on the podiums as well as off. If you have ever attended a Fashion Show during fashion week, you are surely familiar with media coverage on the outfits worn by bloggers, creative directors, buyers and other fashionistas. This is one of the best ways to discover new trends.
This year, as I inspected shots taken of the recent shows, such as Versace, Christian Dior and Alexis Mabille, I couldn’t help but notice a shot taken of Anna Dello Russo ( creative consultant for Vogue Japan) walking into the Giambattista Valli show. According to Examiner.com she was photographed wearing a lip motif mini dress and a luscious faux fur coat.
Although Anna has been known for wearing a significant amount of fur, I believe her influence on fans and the media could inspire others to wear faux instead of real. She has also been seen wearing many pieces by Vika Gazinskaya, a whimsical designer who has an outspoken, animal friendly take on fur used within the industry, directly reflected within her collections and faux-fur garments.
