Sports have always been considered men’s games. Over the past couple of decades we are seeing more and more women get into watching sports. While they do not play the actual game, majority of merchandise is sold to women. Merchandise is also being used to make women feel more apart of the fan base. Many sports, most notably American football, have been creating new lines of jerseys geared toward women.
But it is not stopping there. Different pieces of women’s jewelry have been created to also allow women to show support. From dangling earrings to Pandora charms women have a wide variety of merchandise to pick from.
This can also be seen in football fan gear across Europe. Special women’s kits and accessories are made.
But the fashion is not stopping there, leagues are making special clothing lines that shows just a bit of modest support. In many major sports cities you can tell by seeing someone on the street headed to work who they support.
While women are buying more merchandise are they understanding the sports they support? Is the point of women’s gear purely for financial gain? What have these marketing campaigns done for their specific sports? These are just a few questions to be asking as sport team fashion continues to grow.
