It was if that enchanting moment in Cinderella when her fairy godmother magically transforms her dress into a shimmering ball gown were coming to life on the runway during the Elie Saab Spring/Summer Haute Couture 2015 show. It was Saab’s enchantment with his mother and his childhood in 1960’s Beirut that inspired the 55 look-collection debuted during Paris Fashion Week at the Theatre National de Chaillot on January 28.
The Lebanese designer’s fairytale began at a time when Beirut was referred to as “Paris of the Middle East,” known for exquisite parties and glamorous people. As his breathtaking designs spilled onto the runway they evoked old-world style featuring elegant ostrich feathers, tulip embroidered patterns on sheer lace and of course glistening sequins reflecting true Elie Saab style. Even the dramatic eyes of the models, lined with black coal were reminiscent of Arabian beauty. The nostalgic collection was featured alongside the famous voice of Lebanese singer Feyrouz.
