The air in Paris is cold, people all around are walking with a little extra hop in their step to get to their respective heated locations. However, instead of bundling up in a Canada Goose down jacket, a Parisian favorite, fashion enthusiasts are dressed to the nines in their favorite designers in lieu of Paris Fashion week. I stand outside of the Grand Palais, the venue hosting the Chanel Spring ‘15 haute couture show. I can clearly spot out the notable attendees being chased around by flocks of photographers, most have the official invitation already in hand. The Chanel handbags they carry range from vintage to brand new, from basic to avant garde.
I chuckle to myself as I watch an attendee strut back and forth for photographers, in an attempt to get the perfect shot. While some vie for the attention of the photographers, others are more interested in getting into the show and out of the cold. Police direct traffic, I even see a man cleaning the sidewalk removing the cigarette butts as if it were his only job. Clearly the Chanel fashion show is truly an event.
Around the corner, the side entrance of the Grand Palais is yet another world all together. Additional flocks of photographers muse at the ‘more’ famous attendees from behind a barricade. Watching from across the street, I see the large doors swing open, yelling and the flash of cameras fill the air. Kris Jenner of the Kardashian clan poses (in head to toe Chanel), then hops into her private van.
What a magnificent show, that is, the show from the sidewalk.
