“Vive l’avant-garde!”

As we celebrate his new title of Womenswear Designer of the Year, won last Thursday (Jan. 22) at the first-ever Fashion Los Angeles Awards, I’ve decided to give you 3 irreprovable reasons to worship Jeremy Scott, Moschino’s accomplished creative director since late 2013.

1. Let’s kick off with these. These bad boys are iconic. The Adidas Wings are sui generis – a flawless creation that conquered the hip-hop scene along with the more general public. From version 1.0 to 3.0, these bestselling sneakers have been around since 2008 and aren’t going anywhere.

2. Beyond his renowned friendships with the likes of Rihanna, Lady GaGa, Miley Cyrus and many other A-list celebrities, Scott has been explicitly stamped with the Karl Lagerfeld seal of approval. Indeed, the latter asserted that JS is the only one who could take up the torch at Chanel when he leaves. Need I say more?

3. “When I design I always pull from things that are significant to me. In my work I search for happiness and then try to convey that joy in the clothes”, said Scott regarding his McDonald’s collection and the brand’s omnipresence in our daily lives. He understands our era and is daring enough to have fun with fashion. His humorous use of cultural memes, iconic brands, and neoteric pop designs are what define his creative direction, which happens to align perfectly with Moschino’s genetic code. A match truly made in heaven.
