On Saturday night Alexander Wang decided to give us all a little surprise. He announced at midnight via Instagram that he would be collaborating with the Swedish fast fashion brand, H&M, on a collection. The brand will launch on November 6th, 2014 and he will be the first American designer to collaborate with H&M on a collection. He is following in the footsteps of other major fashion brands such as Marni, Isabel Marant, Lanvin, Karl Lagerfeld, and Stella McCartney. The collection will include both men’s and women’s clothing, along with accessories. It is set to be sold in over 250 stores worldwide and will also be available online. Having the collection available online will possibly reduce the lines in the 250 locations, making these items more accessible.
Wang has been able to capture the interest of both men and women with his innovative designs. He believes he has brought something to the fashion industry that was otherwise missing. Wang is known for his futuristic, linear, and minimalistic designs. What makes the designer extraordinary is his attention to detail. In his collections, Wang believes the color black gives him the largest range of options to design. Black is however not the only color he makes use of. Wang also appreciates white, gray, silver, navy, and burgundy. His creative philosophy has thus far been well received throughout the world, and I can only imagine that he will be implementing all of these design aesthetics into this new collaboration. When interviewed about the partnership, Wang was quoted on Vogue.com as saying, “I am honored to be a part of H&M’s designer collaborations. The work with their team is an exciting, fun process. They are very open to pushing boundaries and to set a platform for creativity. This will be a great way for a wider audience to experience elements of the Alexander Wang brand and lifestyle.” It definitely is. Be sure to mark your calendars!!
