Being a collegiate athlete, fitness is something that is a staple to my everyday lifestyle. Since I spent 14 years of my life looking at a black line on the bottom of the pool, I try and always change up my workout routine for some different scenery. I’m sure at this point we have all heard about the popular workout classes: Soul Cycle, Crossfit, Berry’s Bootcamp, Zumba, Fly Wheel, the list goes on. In major metropolitan citifies, it seems that going to these specialized workout classes are more trendy than just your average gym membership. The fashion industry whether it be the models, photographers, actors, designers and their team can be constantly spotted in most of these trendy workout classes.
While researching fitness, it seems like there is a new fitness trend popping up. CityRow is a 50-minute workout class that keeps you moving throughout. Unlike spinning, you are not confined to bike doing repetitive motions over and over. Everyone in the class has their own rowing machine (watch out for those catalysts!) and this rowing section is interrupted with interval workouts along with squats, planks and free weights. CityRow‘s website says that each class is constructed to burn between 500-700 calories per class!
CityRow’s founder and CEO Helaine Knapp was quoted as saying, “I think we’ve really taken [group workouts] to the next level here, in the sense that it’s high intensity, but it’s low impact. You’re getting that really awesome cardio burn and sweat-feel that people — especially people in fashion — really love. They don’t have a lot of time to work out — and you want to have fun while you’re doing it.” The studio has also been said to have frequent visits from top fashion models, although the company would not name any names.
All in all I cannot wait to try this new class. But let’s be honest, I’ll take any new excuse to buy more Lululemon!
