The past few days at London Fashion Week are bringing the fashion back into waterproof. Shows were cropping up everywhere sporting functional fashions to ward off the never-ending rain that seems to have taken over London and Paris. With looks like the ones from Hunter Original’s new collection, I’ll say it… Make it rain!
The 160-year-old English boot company, Hunter, showed their very first clothing collection during LFW, being transformed into a global clothing brand, under the new direction of Alasdhair Willis, husband of Stella McCartney. The brand made a dramatic splash, literally, as the new looks stomped down the runway that was, you guessed it, made out of water. Garments were for men and women, ranging from knitted sweaters and hats, to coats made out of neoprene and fleece. All the models, of course, were fashioned in Hunter’s classic rain boot, varying in colors and styles. As the weather seems to be worsening around the world it’s obvious this collection was made with function in mind.
One of my favorite looks included a flat black, water-repellent trench coat that isn’t obviously a raincoat, but has the capacity to be protective during harsher weather. Another piece that will be a necessity for surviving a gloomy, rainy Paris winter is a repellent black vinyl hooded cape, accented with a useful large pocket for anything you could need to keep dry.
While I left my Hunter rain boots back in the States, it’s obvious the rain isn’t going away here anytime soon. I’ve noticed that many stylish Parisians do not wear rain boots and raincoats during the damp days, however this new collection from Hunter could make rainy days a bit more water repellent in Paris. No need to ruin leather boots anymore; I can’t wait to buy a new pair of wellies and look forward to the new collection coming out this fall.
